Things to do in Ottawa

Every Sunday morning at 10:00am, during the summer months, the guards on Parliament Hill put on a show. Marching bands, much parading and shouting of commands, lots of colour from men in red costumes with brass buttons and shiny boots – and, of course, bearskins. It’s rather like a mini version of the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. A little bit of history, pomp and circumstance. Get there early for a good spot!

The Byward market is a must visit if you’re in Ottawa. It has great restaurants, little shops, and fantastic atmosphere with street performers.

You could easily spend the entire day here. The market is also a short walk to other major attractions and sightseeing stops.
