Best sandwiches in the USA

One of the first people to put meat between two pieces of bread was the 4th Earl of Sandwich in England. He was an avid card player, and he played cards so much that stopping to eat dinner was inconvenient for him. So he asked his servant to slap some meat between two pieces of bread to have a portable meal. Hence, the “Sandwich” evolved. Americans may never get over their obsession with amazing hamburgers, but they’ve certainly made room for an equally delicious meal: the artisan sandwich.

The sandwich is so popular in America that a food-focused website: Endless Simmer posted a list of America’s Top 10 New Sandwiches. Endless Simmer is a food-focused website written by a network of bloggers across the United States with writers based in New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Seattle, Austin and California.

We are glad to present you the list of craziest, loveliest, cheesiest, most creative new sandwiches.

10. The Noble Pig — Noble Pig Sandwiches, Austin
Tender pulled pork, spicy slivers of ham and crispy bits of bacon are all mixed together, topped with provolone cheese and served on toasted, house-baked bread.

9. Pane e Panelle — Bar Stuzzichini, New York
Stuffed to the brim with several fried chickpea fritters and parmesan and caciocavallo cheeses, the almost nutty taste of the fritters balances nicely with the mild hints of Parmesan scattered throughout.

8. Chicharrones Banh Mi — Ink Sack, Los Angeles
At his new Ink Sack sandwich shop, tender slices of pork belly and pork butt are topped with pickled vegetables, plus fried pork rinds, creating one incredible multi-culti pork sandwich.

7. Rabbit Cheesesteak — La Fromagerie, Alexandria, VA
DC-area shop La Fromagerie replaces the beefsteak with slices of Parisian braised rabbit, smoked mozzarella and tops the whole ciabatta off with carrot puree and caramelized onion.

6. Ebbett’s Cuban — Ebbett’s Good to Go, San Francisco Bay Area
Slow roasted Niman Ranch pulled pork and artisan ham make the perfect pig-on-pig combination, while gruyere brings the goo, a crusty Acme roll provides the crunch, and the whole thing is finished off with jalapeno relish and chipotle mayo.

5. Garlic Bomb — Jake’s Sandwich Board, Philadelphia
A crusty roll is covered in homemade garlic spread and then topped with rib-eye steak and melted provolone, plus more sauteed garlic on top – deep-fried, crunchy, battered whole garlic cloves.

4. Grilled Cheese Donut — Tom + Chee, Cincinnati
It seems that the easiest sandwich that you can even imagine is grilled cheese that is put between two slices of grilled donut instead of bread. But at Cincinnati’s Tom + Chee it’s not so simple, it’s a mystery.

3. DUC — Xe May, New York
Grilled meatballs are covered in house made tomato sauce and provolone, but finished with fresh cilantro, pickled carrots, daikons, cucumbers and chili mayo, all served on a crispy baguette. Mmmm…Yummy

2. Roasted Cauliflower — No. 7 Sub, Brooklyn
This sandwich can impress by its ability to turn regular old vegetables into exciting sandwich creations. Sauteed cauliflower florets are topped with golden raisins, scallions, potato chips and smoked French dressing.

1. Irish Breakfast Sandwich — Beachside, San Francisco
Beachside‘s sandwich has all of those porky products, plus a fried egg and slice of grilled tomato, only slightly fancied up with a thin layer of garlic oil spread on the crispy bread, and a house made “brown sauce” on the side for dipping.

… Bon appetit! 
